The number one excuse people give for the fact that they fail to stick to their new year’s resolution to get fit is that they don’t have the time to work out. The reason people can’t fit it into their schedule is because they think they have to go all or nothing. They think that if they don’t workout for at least 30-45 minutes, 5 days a week, they shouldn’t work out at all. In reality, working out three days a week, for 20-30 minutes is enough to get in a good workout that will help you to stay slim.
There are good rules to stick to that will help you fit in a workout more often. Doing it first thing in the morning is good if you are the type that will commit to waking up early. That way you get it out of the way before anything can distract you. Putting a note on your mirror will help it to stay in the forefront of your thinking. Also, by enlisting a friend to do it with, you may be more likely to commit to a workout schedule.
There are other ways to sneak in a workout when you are busy doing other things.
Sneaky Ways to Get in Exercise
There are ways to get in a good workout without actually performing a conventional workout routine. You just have to be flexible and ready whenever the opportunity presents itself. A good way to do that is to always be prepared.
For working woman
If you are a working woman, having an extra pair of shoes and a towel in the office would be helpful for a quick 10 minute workout to help you beat the afternoon yawns, and rejuvenate the mind. Studies show that smaller increments of exercise can still be beneficial for fitness and weight loss. It is especially important to do a quick stretch or cardio exercise if you spend most of the day sitting at a desk.
For Home Mom
If you are a stay at home mom, have a ball or Frisbee in your trunk for unexpected park visits. Also, playgrounds are great places to do some exercise. The monkey bars can be used for chin ups. Jumping over obstacles and climbing up walls can be a workout. You can run around the playground while the kids are playing. Even if you just join the kids in play you are burning more calories than you think.
You can make it a priority to do physical recreation on the weekends. Hiking, biking, or swimming are good ways to burn calories and build lean muscles. Hiking is also good for toning the butt and legs. Swimming is great for the arms and abs. Biking is good intense cardio. Joining a weekend sports team would be a lot of fun and good exercise.
A fun and unusual way to get in exercise is to do it while you watch TV. Sit and watch during your programs but get up during the commercials and exercise without stopping as long as the commercials are going. This can add up by the end of an hour long program.
House cleaning is also a good workout
House cleaning isn’t considered exercise, but it can be. If the house is a mess and you need to exercise. Make your cleaning your exercise. Turn on some tunes and get down and dirty, or clean that is! Do everything at twice the speed that you would normally clean. You will be sweating by the end of it. Sweeping, scrubbing, vacuuming, and general tidying are physically exerting.
The important thing about fitting in exercise into a busy schedule is thinking outside the box. You may not be able to exercise like most people do but as long as you are moving and burning calories, you are exercising!
